In 1987, April Walker had a vision - to express herself and love for hip-hop and serve her tribe with authentic, dope, rich fashion for her culture. At 21 years old, she opened “Fashion in Effect” her first custom tailor shop in Brooklyn, representing for the streets of NYC. Her fashion lens and influences were drawn from the many growing socio-economic pressures of an oppressive America at that time.

Listening to her customers, April decided to answer a calling and fill a void to an undeserved community by starting her brand “Walker Wear”. This lifestyle brand would become a trailblazer in urban/streetwear fashion, kicking in major distribution doors, penning millions in sales and setting a blueprint for product placement. One day, a young rapper named Biggie Smalls walked in and very quickly became a loyal customer. Soon after, RUN-DMC,Tupac, Queen Latifah, Naughty By Nature, LL Cool J, Shaq, MC Lyte, Jay-Z and many more would join the Walker Wear tribe, trailing a global and dynamic Pathway. As part of the fabric of culture, Walker Wear has been featured in iconic films such as Above The Rim, Clockers, Higher Learning, Straight Outta Compton, Notorious, All Eyez On Me, to name a few.

Since Walker’s first velour sweatsuit sold back in ‘87, the demand hasn’t stopped. Walker Wear continues to break barriers, bridge the gap and offer timeless fashion.
